Wisdom part 3

Psalms 119 (KJV) –
100: I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

In the part 2 piece, we saw how mediating the Word of God makes us wiser than our teachers.

Today, we will see how obeying the Word will make us wiser than the elders.

Obeying the word is more than knowing it and meditating it. It is doing what it says.

In the world, there are sets of principles and rules that we come to understand after so many repetitions. As we age and encounter certain principles repeatedly, we understand them and sort our thinking, and that gives us wisdom.

A great example of a wise man far beyond the elders is Daniel. If we read through the book of Daniel, he was obedient to the Word.

He obeyed the Word. He  did not want to eat the royal food from the King’s table, so he does not eat unclean food and food sucrificed to idols. Along with the three other Jews, they ate grains and had water to drink.

Daniel and his 3 friends;Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, were selected from the Judea exiles for their good looks, aptitude for every kind of learning, and well-rounded knowledge (Dan 1:4)

These four, who obeyed the commands of the One True God, not only mastered the language and literature of Babylon in three years but they were found 10 times more wiser than all the magicians and enchanters in the whole Babylonian kingdom !(Dan 1:18-20)

This was because God had given knowledge and understanding to these four. Mind you, the Babylonian magicians and enchanters start learning  as soon as they can understand and gain experience for years. To study their art in 3 years and excell them must have been, an extraordinary miracle.

The 3 friends of Daniel have obeyed the commands of God, even to the point of,7-times-hotter than usual, fiery furnace. And Daniel obeyed till the Lion’s den.

I don’t think one can just obey until death if he/she has not been practicing an obedient life, obedient even to the seemingly small commands and directions.

Because of their obedience,Daniel and his three friends were wiser than their teachers and all the magicians of the Babylonian kingdom.

We, as children of God, have the Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us. We also have His Word to light our path every step of the way in our day to day living. Do we obey the leading of the Holy Spirit or choose to what seems or feels right to us?

Wisdom is in obeying all-knowing God, obeying His unchanging, pure Word.

This concludes these “wisdom” seriess.May the Lord open our eyes and enlighten our souls with this Mighty Light, that is His Word. May we be wise enough to read, meditate and Obey the Word.

It is my prayer that you have learned something and decided to change the way you perceive and understand the power and impact of the Word in your day to day lives.

Shalom.
