Whose report do you believe?

God told Adam and Eve, not to eat from the tree of knowledge good and evil.

Genesis 2:16: “And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

This is what God told Adam and Eve in the Garden. So Adam had to choose life and avoid death by believing and obeying what the Lord said.

Later on, on the 3rd chapter, a different report came from the serpent.

Genesis 3:5 ” And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”

Eve belived the report of the serpent. And started to fantasize about the fruit.

Genesis 3:6: “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, ..”

Shortly after she ate it, she also gave it to her husband.

The world changed with that bite!

Adam chose to be his own god, thought by knowing good and evil he would have wisdom.

Everyone can see this did not work at all. Adam and his children to the present generation (as we are all children of Adam) heavily ladden/enslaved by sin, not knowing our direction, has been wondering aimlessly in this world, and without hope!

Many people say if only, Adam and Eve had believed the report of the Lord and avoided the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

If only they had known that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom and Obeying God is wisdom.

They would have enjoyed the life that they were created for… life of bliss, living in the presence of God, enjoying the peace and pure joy.

Unfortunately that is not what happened. But God, in his infinite mercy, sent the Savior to restore us to former glory from our miserable state.

And today, every one of us has to make a choice. We have to choose to believe either the report of the Lord or the report of the world.

On one side, there is the Word of God and the Holy Spirit inside us guiding us to go one direction. On the other side, there is our desire, or people pleasing desire, or the serpent telling us to go opposite direction.

Yet most of the time we choose what pleases us, which lead us to misery, mistep in life.

On the other hand when we obey the report of the Lord, we have joy , peace and blessings.

At times, obeying the Lord can seem foolish, discordant with societal value, miscalculation, but when we truly obey Him, he does not disappoint. We live to cherish our decisions and more importantly glorify the One that leads us to victory, here on earth and eternally.

Temporal pleasure of obeying the ungodly report, not only cause us pain and misery here, but also have ramifications eternally.

For those that don’t know the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior and Lord, the Word of God tells us

Acts 16: 31: ” Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”

And to those who have already made the Lord Jesus Christ their personal Savior and Lord, obey the report of the Lord with out compromise.

shalom.
