When Adam decided to be his own god and live independently of His maker, he felt fear and shame.
He died just like God said if he eats of the tree of knowledge of evil and good.
God, being loving, gave Adam a promise that the seed of the woman will crush the head of the serpent.
God was pointing to the salvation or redemption of Adam and his descendants.
God always has a plan, not the way we want it or imagine it to be or hope.
His plan is always perfect.
Isaiah 55:9: “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Since man can never restore this broken relationship with his Creator, God provided The Way.
In John 14:6:” Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Some people find it difficult that there is just one way to reach the Father and enter His Kingdom. They want their way! The arrogance is amazing.
Even the kingdoms of this world have rules and regulation to enter their territories, and there are legal ports of entry.
For example, no one can cross united Kingdom’s borders without the appropriate visa, or that person will be detained and possibly deported back to his country of origin.
If you happen to apply for a visa, there are certain requirements you have to fulfill to be granted one. No country will admit anyone with criminal history.
So why then do we expect God not to have single Way of entry to His righteous Kingdom?
Why can’t He make criteria or rule as to who gets into His Kindom ?
We can look at Adam how he thought he would like to achieve knowledge independently, without God. And Eve thought the fruit would give her wisdom. Following their way and disobeying His instructions brought death.
God always give specific instructions that saves people.
Before the flood, God asked Naoh, the righteous man, to build an ark, which had a single door. To be saved from the coming death, they had to go into the ark through that door. Those who listened and obeyed were saved.
Israelites in Egypt has to sacrifice a 1 yr old lamb without blemish and put some of the blood on their door post.
If one did not follow those specific instructions, the angle of death would come in and kill the first born.
Now Jesus is saying he is the Way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father apart from him.
That is precisely what it means. He is the only way to the Father.
His love for everyone made in his likeness and image, made Him come to earth, and die for our sins.
He is calling us all the time saying
John 10:11:” I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.”
Matthew 11:28: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29: Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Shalom.
