What causes fights?

James 4:1: “From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?”

In simpler English.

James 4:1-3 NLT
“What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the evil desires at war within you? You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.  And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.”

Every time we fight with someone, we should analyze why we are fighting or quarreling.

What is our desire, or what do we think the other person has that we believe is ours. Are we jealous of what they have?

the Word of God says it is due our own unfulfilled desire either in theory or practically that cause the fighting.

Imagine you were desiring promotion  at work, was hoping to get noticed for your hard work, and if someone else gets that promotion, you will quarrel with HR and the person who took what you coveted.

Same apply when people fight or quarel at home or in Church.

When people’s hopes are squished, their desire goes unfulfilled, and dreams are dashed they resort to fighting.

Because they feel the person the are fighting with stood in the way of getting the desired outcome.

If you truly  believe God has a plan for your life and trust Him, you won’t be angry about the “missed opportunity ” but rejoice in his provision.

God’s word tells us, “Seek you will find.” We can ask our God who can supply more than what we ask.

James 4:2-3 NLT
“… Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.  And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.”

When you die to self and the world but live for Christ, you desire what Christ wants for you. Whatever Christ ordains for you will be yours.

Let’s trust God with what we have, what we need, and what we want.

Stop fighting with others but glorify Christ with our hearts and actions.

Shalom.
