Living to please God

1 Thessalonians 4:1: “Living to Please God Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.”

The apostle Paul is urging the brethren in Thessalonia to live in order to please the Lord.

We have seen in the previous blog ” The Glorious God” how Adam wanted to be like God.

Mankind has lived and still living to get praise, honor, and even sometimes worship from others, and in the process to please self.

This has led to utter destruction.

Humans have been doing whatever makes them happy, no matter how destructive, no matter the dire consequences.

But when we are new creation in Christ, he becomes the Lord of our life.

And we live to please the Lord and not our selves or others.

The Lord Jesus makes it clear that whoever follows him has to deny himself.

What does that mean? A follower of the Lord has to live to please the Lord, not  himself or herself.

The world teaches “Do whatever please you” which is contrary to the teachings of Christ.

The Word of God tells us to do everything for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31:” So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”

Apostole Paul is clear on his letter, he was not pleasing him self or other men but God.

1 Thessalonians 2:4: “On the contrary, we speak as men approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please men but God, who tests our hearts.”

And he adds in

1 Thessalonians 2:6: “We were not looking for praise from men, not from you or anyone else. “

“As human praise, we never sought it from you or anyone else” (NLT

2 Corinthians 5:9 “So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it.”

Galatians 1:10 “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Today, are you living to please self/others or to please the Lord Jesus?

Shalom.
