Christ, our life

Colossians 3 :4:” When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.”

Today is the first day of 2024, I hope that we would get to know Christ, our life, more.

For those of you who have not read “Eternal life” blog, I encourage you to do so.

To summarize, the blog

John 17:3: “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

When one knows God and Jesus Christ,  whom He sent, that person has eternal life.

Let continue with today’s reflection;

Psalms 73:25: “Whom have I in heaven but thee?
and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.”

In other words, King David is saying there is nothing I need here on earth because I have you in Heaven.

This is a very powerful and rich king who was feared by the kings around him. He has wives and many children.

He was seasoned muscian. When he was much younger, he was brought  from his home town to play harp for king Saul.

His country women had a special song for him, after he killed Goliath.

As per today’s scale of achievement, he got it all.

The fame, the money, the respect of everyone.

But this David says he does not desire anything on earth. All the “accomplishments” are temporary and fleeting. Because king David got the real deal!

Just like Mary, Martha’s sister, David chose the good part, which shall not be taken away from him.

There is desire in the human heart. To excell above everyone. It could be monetarily, physical attributes, fame or things that we possess; houses, cars, designer clothing, shoes, purses, watches….

We desire that we become center of attention either directly or indirectly.

There is nothing wrong with having the above, but as a Christian, these things should not possess us. Your worth should not be measured with how much money you have or the designer clothes you wear.

As a Christian, you are worth Christ death on the cross, and his blood shed on it.

Jesus Christ advised us in

Luke 12 :15: “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

King David understood life was not in the possessions but in God.

When he found this life, he said I didn’t need anything else on earth.

King David did not leave his palace or throw away his possessions but kept his focus on the source of life.

Where is our focus today?

On our possessions or our source of life, Jesus Christ?

I pray we would come to place of  understanding where we say…

“Whom have I in heaven but thee?
and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.”

Shalom.
