Who is your Lord?

Matthew 7:21: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in Heaven.
22: Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’
23: Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!”

Who is your Lord? This is a good question to ponder in our daily lives.

As we read the scripture above, Jesus is saying, it is not who says “Lord, Lord,” but who does the Lord’s will who will enter Heaven.

The day we get convicted of our sins and ask Jesus to be our personal savior and Lord, is the day we change alligence from self, the world and devil.

We say to the Lord, you are my Lord.

As we go through life, we tend to pick up different “lords.”

Sometime it is self.

We do what we like, what feels right to us, without consulting with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus has said to his disciples, ” Deny yourselves”

This means don’t follow your own desire, your own idea, own plan.

Consult your Lord!

If you are working and have a boss, you do what the boss likes; run things the ways the boss wants it.

The Lord Jesus has given us a clear guide of life. He taught and lived the life we should follow.

Another ‘lord’ that we pick up in our journey of life is the world.

We decide which way to go or what to do because the world dictates it or influences us to do so.

We might see everyone doing it, and we do an action to assimilate.

Sometimes we love the world, and it traps us and drag us to the pit of helplesness, hopelesness, and anxiety.

1 John 2;15: “Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16: For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.
17: The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.”

Sometimes, fear can be our ‘lord’, and it drives us to take action that is contrary to the teaching of our Lord.

Forgetting that the Lord Jesus Christ is; All knowing and Almighty, we choose to rely on splintered staff.

2 Kings 18:21: “Look now, you are depending on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff, which pierces a man’s hand and wounds him if he leans on it! Such is Pharaoh King of Egypt to all who depend on him.”

It is good to examine your ways daily,

Who is your Lord?

If money or fame or fear or other people or your own desire or ambition is your ‘lord’, The Lord Jesus Christ will say to you, “Away from me, I never know you.”

Shalom.

Prayer.

Lord, help us examine our ways daily, help us communicate with you, and follow your guide. We are so small and  limited, but you are Almighty all-knowing, no one can fathom your greatness!! Help us obey you. Amen.
